About the event

The  Filipino American Association of Rochester (FAAR) presents Musikahan At  Bayanihan. An all- Filipino repertoire Benefit Concert for Eastman  School of Music Graduate Student Rey Sunglao. Rey is a current master  student taking up a double Master's Degree in Music Education and Double  Bass Performance and Literature. Rey is a recent graduate of Bachelor of Music in Music Education at St. Scholastica College, Manila(SSC). A recipient of  the Sister Baptista Battig Music Scholarship, Philberth Scholarship, and Future Faces Manila Scholarship. Rey graduated magna cum laude and holds the title  of the first male valedictorian of St. Scholastica.

Rey is the very first Double bass graduate of SSC.  He was a finalist at the  2017 Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines. He represented the  Philippines twice at the Asian Youth Orchestra with other Asian  musicians from around the world. Both a teacher and performer, he is a  member of the Manila Symphony Orchestra, taught at Canadian American  School, Manila, and co-founded an online learning program,  @learningwithmax. At Eastman, Rey is currently a Graduate Teaching  Assistant at the Music Teaching and Learning Department, Program  Assistant at the Office of the Student Affairs, and Summer Conference  Manager for Summer@Eastman. Moreover, he is a Staff Singer-Tenor for St.  Paul's Episcopal Church, Rochester, NY.

While attending Eastman last semester, a tuition grant program  from an organization in the Philippines was cancelled as well as a private foundation that had promised to help pay with his living accommodations while studying in Rochester. Both sources of assistance were cancelled as a direct result of the economy in Manila due to the Covid -19 pandemic.

FAAR is organizing this Benefit Concert to help raise funds for his partial tuition.

Please join us as a community to help him continue his education to help further his goal. Let's show Rey and the community the "BAYANIHAN" Spirit.
